Throughout pregnancy a woman's body undergoes many changes in posture.
The spine and muscles are capable of adapting to these changes yet when
under considerable stress they may produce uncomfortable or painful symptoms.
Typical symptoms include: Lower Back Pain Leg pain/sciatica Tailbone pain Shoulder/upper back pain Headaches Muscle aches Pregnant woman often present to our clinic, especially in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters, seeking relief from their discomforts. Following a comprehensive physical examination with Dr. Mostyn, a treatment program is designed and discussed with each patient. Treatment Programs Prenatal treatment programs may include a combination of the following ... Chiropractic Gentle, natural, hands on techniques to reduce pain arising from the spine, joints or musculature. Treatments help restore proper functioning of the spine and optimize posture during pregnancy. Muscle Therapy Reduces muscle spasm and tightness in the lower back and buttocks. Patients requiring more intensive muscle work may be seen by the Registered Massage Therapist at our clinic. Home Exercise Programs Instruction on stretching and toning exercises for home. Back Care Education Information on caring for the spine at home and at work. Focus on work station set up throughout pregnancy, sitting and sleeping postures, lifting and carrying young children, easy & natural home remedies to reduce back pain. Special Supports Lower back and belly supports may be recommended. Your First Appointment... The initial examination is a 45 minute appointment with Dr. Mostyn. Information regarding the pregnancy and any discomforts will be reviewed. A thorough examination of posture, spine, muscles and any areas of complaint will be conducted. Based on the information and physical findings from the exam a treatment program will be designed for the patient. Each individualized program may include any of the elements listed above. Treatments usually begin with an intensive care program (frequent visits) focussed on diminishing or eliminating the patient's discomfort. Intensive care may be required for one week, or up to 6 weeks, depending on the needs of the patient. Once the patient has completed their initial program and they are feeling better they have the option to continue in a prenatal health maintenance program designed to prevent recurrence of injuries and optimize comfort through the rest of their pregnancy. There is no medical referral required. Fees are $75.00 for the initial exam and $35.00 for regular treatments. Extended health insurance plans may re-imburse for care. Check your policy for details.
